Richard Whoman was the husband of Margret Whoman, and a brief companion of the Golder Doctor.
He was a stoic character who rationally approached new situations. Many have compared him to the First Doctor companion Ian Chesterton. An example of this is when he manages to grapple the Zygon Pope's gun and stun him.
In the novelization, he is a deeply disturbed man who suffers from PTSD after the events of The Return of the Evil Creator. He also seems to be obsessed with scatology. In a jaw-dropping twist, it is eventually revealed that it is Richard who shit in Penny's pot plants, and not a feral cat as first suggested.
